Officers with the Auburn Police Department discovered the dog, now named Zeus, last week after he had been tied to a fence post and left alone.
Police believe the dog had been outside for more than 24 hours, exposed to the elements.

Officer McNabb responded to the scene and rescued the dog, ensuring he received proper care and attention, according to the department.
In a turn of events, officials described as unexpected, Zeus has since been adopted by McNabb.
Police said the outcome highlights a rare but welcome ending for an animal found in distress.“Sometimes the best endings are the ones you don’t see coming,” the department said in a statement.
